Facebook status updates and what they actually mean

We are all worried about what other people mшпре think of us, and how society is going to look at us if we do something we are not supposed to. Even those who claim this isn’t true still depend on the opinion of society. Influence of society is so huge, even our Facebook status updates depend on what people may think about us. So if you are sick of being worried, I can help you “uncover” all people who post things online.
First of all, according to this guy, status updates can be divided into two groups: those that do something for the reader (e.g. entertaining status updates, jokes) and those that do something for the author himself.

Many people who may seem “cool” or something are just in desperate need of attention, and you will see why. All the annoying Facebook statuses can be divided into a few groups (according to the same guy):
1. Bragging. This can be: posing about an upcoming trip somewhere, about getting your dream job / apartment / boyfriend or just pictures. Some brags can pretend they are not happy about something when in fact they are and all they want to do is brag: “Ugh.. two days until my trip to France, how am I going to survive them?” and a picture or a song in French like Edith Piaf’s one Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien
2. Narcissism. A) All the statuses in Latin or any other language that neither author nor their friends speak, so no one but the author understands what is said. B) The expression of gratitude to everyone, probably to show how much people do for the author and how loved he / she is. C) All the private messages for some reason left on someone’s wall and not pm-ed.
3. The author wants affect what others think about him or her. Here go all the quotes and some incredibly obvious facts about politics, science and other stuff posted in order to trick others into thinking you are smart. In most cases such people don’t say anything new or informative, they just state the obvious. People who remove their accounts because they want to show others “they have a life” also fall into this category.
4. Just craving for attention. Such people usually post sad status updates like “no reason to live anymore” or “I am never EVER going to trust people again” – this kind of thing, especially if coupled with some whiny song like this. What these people wait for is their friends commenting on that and asking what’s wrong. That’s when they either tell all about it (which is what they’ve been waiting for) or keep silence / mystery as a celebrity.
I bet you left this kind of updates at least once in your life. So did I – I post my sister’s pictures every once in a while cause she’s gorgeous and I’m freakin braggin :) But what I am saying is – you shouldn’t care what others think about you and never think that someone else’s life can be better than yours.
